Dependencies on Recurring Actions

for reocurring actions (such as weekly tasks that might involve a multi handoff) it would be awesome to allow for subactions or even actions to allow for repetative dependencies. If you create and action and have it repeat, it would be great to allow all of the information to carry over on the repeat and not loose any data. Currently loosing both due times and dependencies of subactions as well as the action when repeating.

If when reviewing this, it would be great to also look into what happens when you need to make a change to the sub actions in a recurring action. Once you’ve set up your action and sub actions exactly the way you want them and then set the recurrence and then it recurs a few times you then decide that perhaps one of your sub actions needs removing permenanty, when you delete it from your original or subsequently recurred actions, the next time it recurrs, the removed sub action still appears. You have to delete all the recurred actions, take off the recurrence setting, make the change, put the recurrence back on, complete the actions all again…

Time estimates and priorities carrying forward with the recurrence would be helpful also. We have to go in and update many of the selections on recurring actions because they don't roll forward with the recurrence. We spend a great deal of "admin" time in HIVE on a weekly basis and it's killing our productivity on client work.

Kelley Bunge: Is there any update on this? Its killing our business productivity and accuracy. Both the recurring dependencies and any changes you want to make to recurred sub actions.

Alison White: Hi Allison - It's in progress! I don't have an estimated go-live date for you just yet but I will follow up once I have more clarity on timeline. I've communicated the urgency to the rest of the team as well.

Recurring actions: Allow dependencies between subactions to carry through in the next recurrence
Kelley Bunge
At the moment, dependencies between subactions do not carry over between each instance of a recurring action. Instead of having to create them each time, I would like for them to be carried over automatically

Dependencies do not carry over for recurring actions

Dependencies do not carry over when an action is set to be recurring. When it recurs the dependencies disappear. Similarly when you create a project or an action card template with recurring actions, all the sub actions are lost.

It really does not make any sense that sub actions would not carry over their dependencies once they are recurred. If we need them the first time round, we will sure need them when they are recurred. We have hundreds of projects that recur monthly and every time they recur we have to go and add in the dependencies back in again for all the 5-10 sub actions. It is very time consuming. Please Please Please can you add this feature in soon, it was requested 20 months ago and would seem a lot of people would benefit from this.
